Origami within the context of an art therapy session can have many uses, including‒but not limited to helping people deal with trauma, practicing mindfulness, and even promoting sensorimotor skills or frustration tolerance.
The therapeutic advantages of origami are amazing! To be able to take a simple concept such as paper folding and watch it make a difference in people's lives is awesome.
Origami is a learning experience that incorporates communication skills and problem solving skills. It's also a great activity to promote goal setting.
Origami provides an opportunity to relax and have fun. The enjoyment that goes along with this activity is positive and therapeutic.
Please join us, and our fellow Warrior Anne Russell, as she guides us through this traditional Japanese paper folding art form.
We can’t wait to see you on November 11th! 💕
Our monthly in-person Caregiver Groups are the second Monday of each month through 2023.
These monthly gatherings will be for our loved ones as they navigate the journey of caring for and supporting a cancer thriver in their lives.
It will be a peer led group, co-facilitated by Chris Smith and Amy Liotta who both lovingly walked beside their spouses and other family members while they were battling cancer.
The group will be hosted at the Canteen Brewhouse, on the patio, in an area that will be reserved specifically for our group. These groups will be on the second Monday evening of every month.
The group will be from 6:00-7:00, but someone will be there as early as 5:30 to greet you. So, we encourage caregivers to come grab a drink and/or some food, and get acquainted before the group begins at 6:00pm.
Warriors, if you want to accompany your caregiver to Canteen that is wonderful, however the group portion itself will be limited to caregivers only to give them their own space in which to share and support one another.
Please spread the word, and share with the caregivers in your life. Let’s help support our caregivers the way they love and support us each and every day! 💕
We hope you will join us for this wonderful Tai Chi experience with our partners at Albuquerque Body & Brain! 💕
We will have to limit this class to 12 each month. So, as always, if you RSVP and are then unable to attend, please change your RSVP accordingly. Thank you!
How does Tai Chi work?
Tai Chi exercises emphasize energy circulation, breathing and balance, along with mindfulness and concentration. You can practice these exercises while standing, seated or even while lying down. Over time, by practicing Tai Chi you can develop a heightened awareness of your own energy. Many people report feeling physically stronger and lighter, with emotions more calm and mind more clear.
Benefits of Tai Chi
What is Tai Chi good for? Tai Chi practice is recommended for overall wellness. It can help with balance, alignment, and stress reduction. Tai Chi exercises can also serve as a form of meditation. Tai Chi energy-balancing exercises are great for people of all ages, and can be adapted for your own condition. You may experience:
Less stress
Improved mood
Increased energy and stamina
Reduced chronic pain
Improved sleep
Improved flexibility, balance and agility
Improved muscle strength and definition
